Apocalyptica Biografie
Die Band Apocalyptica wurde 1996 in Helsinki (Finnland) gegründet. Die vier Mitglieder bei der Gründung, Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lötjönen, Antero Manninen und Max Lilja, spielten für eine Prüfung auf der Sibelius-Akademie Lieder der Band Metallica mit dem Cello ein. Diese bildeten in der Folge auch den Grundstock für das Debütalbum "Apocalyptica Play Metallica By Four Cellos".
Auch in den folgenden Alben fanden Cover-Songs diverser Bands aus dem Bereich des Rock und Heavy Metal, unter anderem Rammstein, Sepultura und Slayer, ihren Platz neben einer zunehmenden Anzahl von Eigenkompositionen. Im Jahr 1998 traten Apocalyptica im Vorprogramm von Metallica auf.
Im Jahre 2003 beschritt die Band neue Wege und lies einige Songs des Albums "Reflections" mit Drums hinterlegen, bei den Aufnahmen tat dies meist Dave Lombardo von Slayer. Bei Konzerten wurde dieser Part von Mikko Sirèn übernommen, welcher 2005 offizielles Mitglied von Apocalyptica wurde.
Der Durchbruch in Deutschland gelang der Band mit der Single "Bittersweet", welche in Kooperation mit Ville Valo und Lauri Ylönen aufgenommen wurde. Beim Eurovision Song Contest 2007 in ihrer Heimat Finnland durfte Apocalyptica die Gestaltung der Pausenshow übernehmen.
Im August 2010 veröffentlichte die Band ihr siebtes Studioalbum "7th Symphony", 2015 folgte "Shadowmaker".
